Grassroots Labour Organising #2 – Building a Grassroots Union

Do you have any problems at work?

Has your boss paid you less than you should get paid? Or maybe not paid you at all?

Do you get treated unfairly and for a low pay?

You have probably heard of organising in the Danish unions and having to pay monthly “subscription”.

That is one way of doing it, though we prefer to organise ourselves and demand better pay and conditions from your boss independently, similar results and without paying monthly.

On Saturday 14th of November, we have invited Move By Bike Riders United to present their story as a independent union and how they are working to solve many of their issues at work. These include better pay, getting money paid that was owed to them, getting protective gear, etc. We have also asked a comrade to share their story of organising at Donkey Bike.

Come, hear, and participate in this talk about how they organised. We are stronger together. Don’t think because you are working a “temporary” job you don’t deserve fair pay and conditions like many other places in Denmark. If you are an immigrant, like us, there is no need to be afraid of their empty threats of deportation, we are fighting for justice and all we do is within the law and has been done before.

On October 2nd at the restaurant blockade, our fellow worker was paid what he was owed in less than 24 hours through our direct action. MBB shows us how the struggle can be maintained and adapted as you go deeper into the Danish system and have to deal with your boss finding out, dealing with their fear, and attempts at breaking down our collective power. Also, how to interact with unions once they have noticed your organising.

We’ll provide toasts/paninis and keep the bar open after the event so you can stay and chat.

Time: 17.30

Place: Stengade 50, Folketscafe

Remember: Cash for the bar, the event will be in English
